Having grown up on a farm in the Kent countryside, I am currently dividing my time between London and the south coast, where my husband and I are trying to turn two dilapidated Victorian railway carriages into an eco-house. Gardening is one of my long-time interests, and I’m lucky enough to have spent my career writing about it, with a weekly column in The Sunday Telegraph since 1996. Other passions include living well while endeavouring to consume less, poetry, photography, lurchers, Italy, thrift shops, markets, Bob Dylan, beachcombing, cooking and my young daughter.
People have been talking about the Weekend Book in messages here, so I thought I would put a cover up (click for a link to order it) - and one of my next book (written with my friend Ros Badger ) - which will be out in early May. As people who have always made things at home - Ros is a great knitter and crocheter, and I love making things from the garden, whether that's planting up pots as presents, cooking chutney and jams or festooning the house with leaves and flowers - we've collected some of what we think are our best ideas into a book of around 80 projects, all of which have all been beautifully photographed. For more on these books, and the others that I have written, and links to order them, please go to my website and click on Books.
